Designed to be used for low temperature applications, the ASTM A420 WPL6 Fittings are a part of pressure piping and pressure vessels. Materials like carbon steel or alloy steel are to be produced by processes such as basic oxygen, open hearth, or electric furnace process. There are different types of forging or forming operations that could be practised on these A420 WPL6 Pipe Fittings. If required, the manufacturer producing these fittings could use a two or more of these operations on the fittings. The list of shaping operations that could be practised on the ASTM A420 WPL6 Material includes procedures such as pressing, extruding, upsetting, working, piercing, bending, fusion-welding, hammering, or machining. The specification also states that any welding to be performed on these fittings are to be completed before they have been given austenitizing heat treatment. The heat treatment on ASTM A420 WPL6 Buttweld Pipe Fittings is to be executed in any of the following conditions i.e. normalized or normalized and tempered or annealed, or quenched and tempered conditions.

Specimens belonging to this specification, including the Low Temperature Carbon Steel Fittings have to conform to required values with regards to parameters such as chemical composition, tensile and yield strength, wall thickness, elongation, as well as Charpy V-notch impact value. While hydrostatic testing of these fittings is not required according to this specification, all fusion-welded butt joints for e.g. LTCS A420 WPL6 Weld Fittings are required to be subjected to a radiographic examination.
