Preferred by most buyers for its superior weldability properties, austenitic stainless steel grade 304 L is a low carbon containing version of the very popular alloy grade 304. Since the lowering of carbon would mean that the alloy is not sensitized by grain boundary precipitates, thus Stainless Steel 304L Pipe Fittings tend to be resistant to intergranular corrosion. Needless to say, in instances where these fittings required to be a permanent fixture, grade 304L is an effective solution. A problem associated with low carbon stainless steel alloys such as the DIN 1.4306 304L Stainless Steel Socket Weld Fittings is the loss of strength. As a part of the solution, the alloy of grade 304L has an addition of nitrogen. Nitrogen is known to improve several aspects of the fittings.
One of the most important characteristics of Stainless Steel 304L Pipe Fittings alloy is that it can withstand extremely low temperatures.

Moreover, nitrogen acts as a stabilizing agent, while also improving the pitting resistance properties of the alloy. In terms of its corrosion resistance properties, the UNS S30403 304L Stainless Steel Fittings have the ability to resist atmospheric corrosion, and, both moderately oxidizing as well as reducing environments. In fact, the ASTM A403 Gr WP304L Elbow fitting demonstrates excellent strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures. Another factor that drives the popularity of the ASME B16.9 SS 304L Fitting to a higher level is its inexpensiveness.
