Similar to most ASTM specifications, the ASTM A403 deliberates over several parameters, only in this case the product is wrought grade austenitic stainless steel fitting. Built in preference for use in pressure piping applications, the Stainless Steel 304 Pipe Fittings are exposed to a variety of shaping or forging operations. Typically these operations may be carried out in a combination of 2 or more of the following processes i.e. hammering, bending, fusion welding, pressing, piercing, extruding, upsetting, rolling, as well as machining. Per this specification, the wrought grade UNS S30400 Sa 403 Gr WP304 Tee Fittings are required to undergo heat treatment along with being subjected to a chemical and product analysis.
A tension test is to be administered to the material used in the manufacture of Werkstoff Nr. 1.4301 Stainless Steel 304 Pipe Fittings in order to determine the tensile properties such as yield strength and tensile strength.

Following a tension test, these fitting are required to be examined visually. A visual examination performed on the ANSI B16.9 Stainless Steel 304 Elbow Fittings are required to rule out any of the following defects i.e. surface discontinuities, surface checks, as well as mechanical marks. Apart from offering better mechanical strength, grade 304 is an alloy that is ductile and malleable.
