A derivative of specification ASTM A105 which could be used in environments where the temperatures range between ambient to high temperatures; the ASTM A105N Fittings were developed to be used in applications involving low temperatures. Although both specifications use the same raw materials, have the same steel grades, but the difference between them is that SA-105 Normalized Fittings have a specific requirement, with regards to its heat treatment. Although the chemistry of both specifications is the same, the mechanical properties of ASTM A105N Forged Fittings are better suited to critical conditions. These fitting have been furnished by heat treating them using a normalizing process. Hence the term N in the ASTM A105N Forged Fittings stands for the component in a normalized condition.

Carbon Steel A105N Pipe Fittings
SA-105 Normalized Fittings
Carbon steel, although hard and very tough, lacks corrosion resistance properties.
Carbon steel, although hard and very tough, lacks corrosion resistance properties. In order to improve its corrosion resistance properties, the surface of Carbon Steel A105N Pipe Fittings could be coated with anti-rust oil, black oil, hot dip galvanization, zinc coating and electroplating. Amongst the aforementioned surface treatments, most buyers choose to either electroplate the fitting or galvanize the fittings by using zinc. In comparison to regular electroplating or zinc coating, Carbon Steel A105N Galvanized Fittings, offer higher corrosion resistance properties as the layer of zinc is much thicker when the carbon steel fitting have been galvanized.
