In addition to having superior mechanical properties and high tensile strength, the ASTM A182 F9 Flange has good corrosion resistance properties. Although the properties of the fitting depend on the alloy used to manufacture them. Another process that improves the mechanical properties of ASTM A182 F9 Alloy Steel Flanges is the forging process. Forging these components leads to an alignment f the grain to the shape, thereby resulting in the flange or the fitting i.e. ASTM A182 F9 Forged Elbow getting improved mechanical strength, good impact and fatigue resistance as well.
Connected to the pipe or the fittings with the help of two fillet welds, one weld is executed inside the Alloy Steel SA 182 Gr F9 SORF Flanges, whereas the other one is welded outside the cavity of the flange. Also known as Hubbed Flanges these components are easy to recognize because of their slim and compact shape. The bore size of a slip-on flange is constructed larger as compared to the outside diameter of the connecting pipe. This construction is what makes it possible for the pipe to slide inside the flange, which is then finally connected by the execution of a fillet weld.
Since the materials covered by specification ASTM A182 includes alloy steel and several stainless steel grades, the components are delineated for high temperature applications.

Considered to be ideal for use in small size and high pressure piping systems, the Low AS F9 Socket Weld Fittings are not well suited for the transference of highly corrosive fluids across pipping systems. Their static strength of socket weld AS Gr F9 Pipe Flanges is similar to that of a slip-on flange. However, their fatigue strength is much higher due to the presence of a single fillet weld, instead of double fillet weld.
