While the specified ASTM A182 F5 Flange is used in high temperature applications, the manufacturing process of these flanges must conform to the recommendations given in the specification including mechanical properties, chemistry as well as the testing parameters. The different type of ASTM A182 F5 Forged Fittings include threaded, slip on, weld neck, socket weld, blind and lap joint flanges. While the flange is a device that aids the worker to inspect, clean or modify a piping system, the functioning of each flange differs from the other. In the case of Threaded flanges, these components are joined to pipes by screwing the pipe onto the flange, without the use of seam welds. Although in special cases, small welds could be applied to these flanges in order to increase the strength of the connection.
Alloy Steel SA182 F5 Threaded Fitting is available in sizes up to 4 inches and in multiple pressure ratings. However, these fittings tend to be used, mostly, in small size piping, especially for low pressure and low temperature applications, such as water and air utility services. Moreover, Threaded flanges are also a mandatory requirement and are used as Alloy Steel SA 182 Gr F5 Pipe Flanges in explosive areas, such as gas stations and plants, since the execution of welded connections in such environments would be hazardous.
The various stainless steel or alloy steel ASTM A182 specified flanges are often forged in order to improve its mechanical properties.
The SA182 F5 SORF Flange, or as known as Hubbed Flanges, on the other hand, could be connected to the pipe or the fittings by using two fillet welds, one executed on the inside whereas the other fillet weld is to be done on the outside the cavity of the flange. The bore size of a slip-on flange or SORF is larger as opposed to the outside diameter of the connecting pipe. Since the pipe has to slide inside the SORF flange in order to be connected by the execution of a fillet weld.
A popular device used to change the direction of the flow, the AS F5 Forged Elbow could be either angled at 22.5, 45 or 90 degrees unless otherwise specified by the buyer.
