Although specification ASTM A105 is the most common forged carbon steel material used in the manufacture of flanges, this specification is not well suited to be used in low temperature service. Which is why many manufacturers treat the carbon steel based ASTM A105N Flange to a heat treatment, where the term N is indicative of a Normalization heat treatment. Heat treatment performed on the ASTM A105N Material is what facilitates use of the flange not only at low temperature settings, but also in other critical application.
ASTM A105N Flange
CS Orifice Flange A105N
Blind Flange A105N
In terms of chemistry, the alloyants used to make both A105 flanges as well as CS Orifice Flange A105N remains the same.
After undergoing heat treatment by normalization, the carbon steel A105N Normalized Flanges will eliminate the internal stresses that were caused by operations such as casting, forming or forging. The normalizing heat treatment performed on the steel will ensure the ASTM A105n Blind Flange has superior properties as compared to the steel flanges produced under specification A105. Moreover, the grades for both specifications remains the same as well. The only difference is that the Carbon Steel SA105N Flange has been furnished by normalizing heat treatment, for its use in critical conditions.
