ASTM A234 WPB fittings mean the pipe fitting which material is Carbon Steel ASTM A234 WPB, they are used for the pressure piping systems of moderate and high temperature services. ASTM A234 is the standard of pipe fittings material , it indicates the materials properties of different kinds of carbon steel and alloy steel, WPB is one of the steel grade in this standard. A234 WPB is the most common carbon steel pipe fittings material.
WPB Full form:
- W means weldable/ wrought,
- P means pressure,
- B is grade b, refer to the minimum yield strength, like the astm A106 A53, Gr.B or API 5L Gr.B.
A234 WPB pipe fittings are butt welding ends, commonly used to be welded with the steel pipes of A106, A53, GR.B material, or API 5L GR.B material.
Carbon Steel Fittings are divided into three groups:
- Carbon Steel Buttweld (BW) fittings whose dimensions, dimensional tolerances et cetera are defined in the ASME B16.9 standards. Light-weight corrosion resistant fittings are made to MSS SP43.
- Carbon Steel Socket Weld (SW) fittings Class 3000, 6000, 9000 are defined in the ASME B16.11 standards.
