ASTM A193, Grade B7 – a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum steel widely used for medium high-temperature service. ASTM A193 Grade B7 bolts and threaded studs are manufactured from a chromium-molybdenum steel and are quenched and tempered (heat treated) to develop the desired mechanical properties (strength). Grade B7 is the most common grade of A193 bolts used in construction.

Materials – Carbon Steel Bolts in ASTM A307 (Grades A and B)
ASTM A307 is the standard specification for carbon steel bolts, studs, and threaded rods of 60000 PSI tensile strength in sizes from ¼ inch to 4 inches in diameter. A307 bolts from Glaser and Associates are available in two grades, A and B, offering different mechanical and chemical properties for specific applications.
This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements of three grades of carbon steel bolts and studs in sizes 1⁄4 in. through 4 in. ASTM A307 is the most common of all bolt specifications and is often manufactured using A36 round bar. The fasteners are designated by “Grade” denoting tensile strength and intended use, as follows:
Grades
- Grade A – headed bolts, threaded rods and bent bolts with a minimum tensile strength of 60 ksi for a wide range of general-purpose applications. Bolts and studs having a minimum tensile strength of 60 ksi and intended for general applications.
- Grade B – heavy hex bolts and studs with a tensile strength of 60 to 100 ksi for flanged joints in piping systems with cast iron flanges. Bolts and studs having a tensile strength of 60 to 100 ksi and intended for flanged joints in piping systems with cast iron flanges
- Grade C: Replaced by Specification F1554 Gr.36
-The term studs includes stud stock, sometimes referred to as threaded rod.
-This specification does not cover requirements for machine screws, thread cutting/forming screws, mechanical expansion anchors or similar externally threaded fasteners.
